Laser diodes, not a blanket of glow.
Both lasers and LEDs can emit red light. The physical delivery differs: laser diodes create narrow, directional beams, while LEDs generally spread non-coherent light more widely. MARS uses 272 laser diodes across the cap.
That is an engineering choice—not proof that every laser device outperforms every LED device.

Red-light devices around 630–660 nm have been studied in randomized, sham-controlled trials for pattern hair loss. In one 24-week trial, a different helmet used 224 laser diodes at 660 ± 10 nm and 5 mW per diode and reported a greater increase in hair density than sham.
That protocol and those findings belong to the study device—not to MARS. Geometry, dose, session length and safety documentation all matter. A systematic review also found meaningful variation between products and study designs.
